Troubleshooting Common Assembly Issues

Stiff or Misaligned Wheels

Check that the wheels are properly seated in the fork and rear dropouts. Ensure all washers and spacers are correctly placed, and the quick-release or bolts are tightened to the manufacturer’s specifications without being overtightened.

Brakes Rubbing Against the Rim

If your brakes are rubbing, adjust the brake caliper position. Loosen the mounting bolts slightly, reposition the caliper so the pads are equidistant from the rim, and retighten the bolts. Ensure the brake pads are not worn out and replaced if necessary.

Gears Not Shifting Smoothly

Check the derailleur alignment and cable tension. Make sure the cables are not frayed or overly tight. You can adjust the tension using the barrel adjuster for smoother shifting.

Loose Handlebars or Seat Post

This often occurs if the clamps are not tight enough or the wrong size components are used. Ensure all clamps are tightened to the recommended torque, and use a torque wrench if available.

Squeaking or Unusual Noises

Identify the source of the noise, which is commonly due to loose parts or insufficient lubrication. Tighten all screws and bolts, and apply bicycle-specific lubricant to chains, pivot points, and cables.
